What makes these buns truly amazing is a coating made from molasses, water and seeds! The mixture of molasses and roasted seeds creates a truly delicious and crunchy crust, while the inside is extremely soft and fluffy, all you can desire in a bread buns. You can use any seeds for coating, we used pumpkin, flax, sunflower and sesame seeds for a nice variety of rolls and an interesting look. But you can also use poppy seeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds, etc. These buns are perfect to pull apart and enjoy, as they are really amazing on their own. But you can also put some spread on, like hummus, chocolate spread, jam, nut butter… or even make mini sandwiches, which are also great to take on the go. Play around a bit and create interesting, delicious and unique buns of your own!
Ingredients and instructions
Making bread rolls is extremely easy, you only need 5 ingredients for the dough, which you almost certainly already have at home.

Yeast dough is extremely easy to prepare, we use it for a huge variety of recipes, from savory to sweet dishes, and it works really well. When you have the dough ready, it’s time for the best part: shaping the rolls! Once you make the rolls, coat them with a mixture of warm water and molasses. Molasses is a very thick syrup that is a byproduct of sugar refining process and is very healthy, unlike sugar. It contains a lot of vitamin B6 and various minerals, it’s especially high in iron, calcium, magnesium and manganese.
Finally, coat the buns with various seeds, which also make these buns more nutritious as they contain a lot of protein, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals, they are also very tasty and give the rolls a wonderful look.

Bread rolls with seeds
- 500 g semi-white flour
- 7 g dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 300 ml lukewarm water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 30 g molasses
- 100 ml warm water
- 30 g sesame seeds
- 30 g sunflower seeds
- 30 g pumpkin seeds
- 30 g flax seeds
- Put flour, dry yeast, salt and sugar in a bowl, mix and add water.
- Stir the dough slowly with a wooden spatula from the middle outwards, then knead it well with your hands.
- Cover the dough and let it rest in a warm place for at least 30 minutes.
- Once the dough is risen, divide it into 20 parts from each form a ball, soak in a mixture of molasses and water and roll in different seeds.
- Put one next to the other in a baking dish covered with baking paper.
- Cover and let it rest for another 15 minutes.
- Bake for 20 to 30 minutes in a preheated oven at 200 °C.
