Healthy flour-free plum dumplings

Delicious, healthy and juicy plum dumplings sprinkled with cinnamon and roasted oat flour and semolina!

One of our favorite sweet lunches are definitely plum dumplings, or dumplings filled with various fruits. It’s so nostalgic when me make them, because they are a dish from our childhood. This time we prepared them in vegan and healthy version, because they are made without flour. We used spelt semolina and oat flour, which work perfectly for dumplings, as they are very compact and firm, but still very soft and juicy when you bite into them.

We filled them with plums, but you can use any fruit (strawberries, apricots…) or even chocolate or some other spread. We always sprinkle dumplings with roasted breadcrumbs, or this time with roasted semolina and oat flour and cinnamon. If you like your dishes very sweet, you can also sprinkle the dumplings with vanilla sugar. We added some boiled plums on the side in which you can dip the dumplings. You can also freeze them (preferably one by one so they don’t stick together) and cook whenever you want.

Ingredients and instructions

These delicious plum dumplings are made with only 6 ingredients.

These are:

  • potato,
  • spelt semolina,
  • oat flour,
  • corn starch,
  • agave syrup– you can also use maple or rice syrup and
  • plums.

Cut potatoes into small pieces, put in a pot with cold water and bring to a boil. Lower the temperature and cook them for 20-30 minutes. When it is cooked, take it out of the water and mash. Wait for it to cool down a bit, then add agave syrup, oat flour, semolina and corn starch and knead it until you get a soft dough. If it is still a bit sticky, add some more oat flour. Separate the dough into 6 equal pieces. Form each piece into a circle, put half of plum in the middle (you can add a small teaspoon of sugar if you prefer it sweeter) and carefully close it and form into a ball. Put it on a plate covered with flour. Then put water in a wide pot and bring to a boil. When it’s boiling put dumplings in water, lower the temperature and cook for 15 minutes (make sure it’s boiling all the time). When dumplings are cooked, put them on a plate, sprinkle with roasted breadcrumbs and cinnamon. You can also prepare some cooked plums on the side to dip dumplings in them.
