Delicious gluten-free and oil-free crackers are an amazing healthy snack full of flavour and a great alternative to store bought crackers, chips and other unhealthy snacks.
Crackers are very easy to prepare and are great to enjoy as a snack while watching a movie, studying or working. They contain only healthy and nutritious ingredients and do not contain any gluten or oil, and they are prepared extremely quickly! We added a little bit of dry rosemary to them, which creates a wonderful aromatic taste, but you can also add some other spices to them, for example basil, chilli, paprika…
If you like crunchy snacks, you must definitely try these crackers as they are extremely crunchy. And if you want to take your snacking to the next level, make some healthy dipping sauce to dip them in.
Ingredients and preparation
Ingredients
The basis of crackers are chickpea flour and cornmeal. Chickpea flour is a healthy and protein-rich substitute for classic flour and has slightly less calories and contains a huge amount of vitamins and minerals. It is also suitable for those who do not consume gluten, and so is cornmeal. It is also just as rich in vitamins and minerals such as iron, magnesium, calcium and more.
You only need to add sesame seeds, spices that create an exceptional aromatic taste and cold water and that’s it! Super simple, yet extremely delicious. You can adjust the spices to your liking, this time we used:
- salt,
- dry rosemary,
- garlic powder
- onion powder and
- turmeric powder.
Preparation
The preparation is super simple and won’t take you a lot of time, the whole preparation, including baking time, takes only around half an hour. All you have to do is mix dry ingredients together and then gradually add water and mix so that you get a thick dough. You can let this rest in the fridge for a few minutes to harden a bit, as this makes it easier to roll out and shape. Then sprinkle some chickpea flour on the working surface and roll out the dough thinly on it (about 3 mm thick, so that the crackers will be nicely crispy, if they are too thick, they will be soft on the inside and if they are too thin they can quickly burn). You can cut crackers with any cookie cutters, this time we used cute smiley faces, but you can also cut them into a classic rectangular shape with a knife. Then you only need to bake them and you already have a healthy and tasty snack ready, which you can enjoy without any guilt.
