Quick and simple hummus recipe

You can make your own hummus in just a few minutes!

We love hummus, it is one of the foods that we always need to have in our fridge! This incredibly creamy and delicious spread, made from chickpeas is a great source of protein and is really healthy. All of the ingredients have many vitamins and health benefits, so it is a perfect healthy food.

And it is so simple to make hummus at home! It only takes a few minutes and all you need are a few basic ingredients and a blender. You just put everything in blender in the right order, blend for a few minutes and there you have it, a delicious homemade hummus! You can then store in the fridge for a few days. It’s best if you cover it with a lid, so that it stays creamy and doesn’t get a crust. And before serving it, put a few drops of olive oil on it. You can also add some spices or roasted chickpeas for decoration.

How to eat it

Hummus goes great with bread, or even better, pita bread. It’s also great for dipping vegetables like carrots, red pepper, celery… cut into sticks. We also love adding it as a “sauce” part  to our buddha bowls!

We really love classic hummus, which we make from 8 ingredients:

  • chickpeas,
  • tahini,
  • garlic,
  • lemon,
  • vinegar,
  • salt,
  • olive oil,
  • water.

But it is also possible to make it flavoured, by adding different spices or other ingredients, like mushrooms, beets, red pepper, chilli… You can completely customize it to your own taste. Tip

If you want hummus to be really very smooth, remove the skin from the chickpeas before making it and use a very good blender.

Beetroot hummus

We love adding fresh beetroot to our hummus, because it is really healthy and adds many vitamins and minerals to the hummus and as a bonus it also makes it incredibly beautiful. The vivid pink colour is just incredible!

We usually add raw beetroot to keep all of the vitamins, but you can also use cooked or roasted beetroot for even more flavour, it’s completely up to you!

Beetroots are full of essential nutrients, they are a great source of fiber, iron, manganese, potassium and vitamin C. They also have many health benefits, so it’s great to include them in the diet and adding them to hummus is a great way to do that.
