Avocado-basil pesto

This creamy pesto made with avocado and basil is really healthy and delicious.

We just love avocado! It’s so great for desserts, on toast, in salads… There are so many ways how to use it. And vegan pesto is one of our favourite recipes with avocado. It is a healthy and quick meal and is also great for a meal prep. Creamy avocado pesto with fresh basil goes great with pasta or rice. It’s also great as a toast spread or as a dip for vegetables and tortilla chips. It’s so easy to make since there is no cooking included and contains a lot of healthy ingredients. You just add all the ingredients to a blender  and blend until smooth and creamy. So simple, but so delicious and refreshing. It’s dairy free, gluten free, nut free and full of good fats.

If you don’t like fresh basil you can switch it up with some cilantro or just skip it if you don’t like the taste of it.

Perfect avocado for pesto

You have to make sure that you have a perfect avocado for the pesto. Ripened avocado makes the best pesto, since under ripe is hard and you won’t get creamines out of it and overly ripe (brown) would be mushy and taste really bad.
Peel back the small stem or cap at the top of the avocado. If it’s green underneath, you’ve got a good avocado that’s ripe and ready to eat.

Black rice

Recently we discovered this amazing black rice! We’ve never heard of it before, but it’s really great and healthy. Comparing to white and brown rice, it is higher in fiber and a spoonful of black rice has more antioxidants than a spoonful of blueberries! It is also a great source of iron. There is a major difference in cooking time, because black rice has to cook for 40 minutes.
It tastes really good and even better with this avocado pesto that we made. On top of the dish we added avocado rose, that put a whole meal together. We also added some toasted sunflower seeds for crunchiness and some basil leaves for freshnes.

Quick and delicious creamy pesto with avocado and basil.


  • 1 avocado
  • handfull of fresh basil
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • few drops of lemon juice
  • salt
  • pepper


  • Put all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
